Distinguish Between Fragrances And Essential Oils

Jan 12, 2022

Essential oils are aromatic factors extracted from the flowers, diameters, leaves, roots, and fruits of plants. Essential oils are highly volatile and will volatilize quickly once exposed to the air.

Flavors are synthetic concentrates that mimic the smell of fruits and natural flavors. It is an artificial flavor that is not volatile and has a strong flavor.

Distinguishing method:

1. Pour 2 cups of boiling water, drop 2-3 drops of essential oil and essence respectively, and then smell the smell coming out of the steam, the smell is pleasant and soft, this is the essential oil; on the contrary, the smell is stronger and pungent, it is the essence .

2. Just take 2 paper towels, add 2--3 drops of essential oil and essence respectively, fold the paper towels in half and place in the sun, and observe after 2--4 hours. Essential oils are highly volatile and leave no trace on the paper towel, leaving almost no smell or a faint smell on the paper towel (depending on the experiment with the essential oil). Fragrances leave a greasy streak (spot) on the paper towel and a strong, pungent smell.

3. This requires you to distinguish between essential oils and essences by smelling them directly with your nose based on your years of understanding of essential oils.
